Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using ControlType ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.

Description of Service

ControlType is a macOS application that provides local, on-device speech-to-text transcription. The App captures audio from your microphone, processes it using an embedded AI model, and types the transcribed text into your active application.

License

ControlType grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on your personal macOS devices in accordance with these terms and the Mac App Store terms of service.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use ControlType only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Redistribute the embedded AI model separately
  • Use the App to generate content that violates any applicable laws

Accuracy Disclaimer

Speech-to-text transcription is performed by an AI model and may not always be accurate. ControlType makes no guarantees about transcription accuracy. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting any transcribed text before use, especially in critical applications.

Accessibility Permissions

ControlType requires macOS Accessibility permissions to inject text into applications. By granting these permissions, you acknowledge that the App will interact with your focused text fields. The App does not read, log, or transmit any existing content from your applications.

Intellectual Property

ControlType and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by the developer. The embedded Whisper model is used under the MIT License from OpenAI. The whisper.cpp inference engine is used under the MIT License.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ControlType and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising from your use of the App.

Warranty Disclaimer

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
